MOSO® Bamboo Decking was specified by PFS Studio for its outstanding natural sustainability, performance, and resilience. Being a natural product it only goes to the process of thermo-density compression and heat treatment achieving Class A fire resistance (ASTM E84) and is compliant with Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) regulations. In addition, it has been tested to CAN/ULC S-102 and S-107 standards, ensuring compliance with Canadian building codes for flame spread and roof covering, respectively.
The decking offers a low-maintenance, long-lasting solution that outperforms many tropical hardwoods in dimensional stability, durability (Class 1, EN 350), and weather resistance—critical for the wet, coastal environment of the North Shore. As a rapidly renewable material with a negative carbon footprint, MOSO Bamboo supports the project’s embodied carbon reduction goals without compromising on aesthetics or safety.
This installation demonstrates the viability of engineered bamboo in institutional projects seeking resilient, code-compliant, and sustainable outdoor materials.
Capilano University coordinator expressed his satisfaction of the material and low maintenance
advantages. Children will start using it this 2025 summer.
